E. B White Quote

“We should all do what, in the long run, gives us joy, even if it is only picking grapes or sorting laundry.”

This thought comes from the Letters of E. B. White. As someone who appreciates the little things (and does a lot of laundry!), White’s simple sentence resonated with me. As you would expect, Letters is filled with wise, funny sentences. It will be an inspiration for the writers among us.

Thanks to one of my favorite magazines for reminding me of this quote in its April issue. www.realsimple.com

That’s a great sentiment. It takes a bit of wisdom to know you don’t have to find a cancer cure or write the Great American Novel, to have a worthwhile life. Most of us won’t do anything that noteworthy. Joy can be found in our family and taking care of our little corner of the world and, with some luck, leaving both the better for it.
