Orwell’s 1984

It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking

I’m ready for spring but I don’t think there will be many daffodils blooming after this sentence. In this opening to George Orwell’s landmark book 1984, he sets the bleak tone immediately. Terms such as Big Brother have crossed over from the book into our political lexicon. This is worth re-reading. Have you recently read this classic from your school days?
